One Work Gallery: Simon Carter
‘Turning Back’, 2022
Wednesday 18th March
Artist Talk 2.30pm
Free. All welcome.

Our next artist is Simon Carter, who studied at Colchester Institute and then North East London Polytechnic. Often described as a 'painter's painter', his painting lies between figuration and abstraction, illustrating both landscape and the subjectivity of looking, to reflect a perceptual and psychological experience of the world. Simon is President of Colchester Art Society and has been Artist-in-residence at the  University of Essex and Firstsite.  Simon Carter will be showing a painting called Turning Back, and will be joining us for a conversation about the work on Wednesday, 18th March 2.30pm.

One Work Gallery is a new programme of artworks and talks by professional artists to The Nose, exhibiting in the ‘One Work Gallery’. Located above the fireplace in The Nose, this single work showcase encourages visitors to sit and contemplate an artwork over the duration of a month. The artist is invited for an informal discussion to give people the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the work. The artworks are selected by artist Sue Bennett and are installed by technician James Barnard. The artworks are for sale.
