'A charming snapshot of a slice of the British seaside, the humble beach hut, their occupants, and a tiny corner of Essex serving here as a brilliant microcosm for a larger story about our island nation's idiosyncrasies’. -Travis Elborough
Have you ever wondered about the people who choose to spend summer days in their beach huts? Nancy Stevenson sets out on a journey to discover the people who inhabit the beach huts on the North Essex coast. Beach Hut People shares an insight into owning, naming and decorating a beach hut, offering a glimpse into the pleasures of these ‘sheds by the sea’.
At the start of the book the author is unconvinced, she loves the beach but is always on the move. A walker and a swimmer she just can’t see the attraction of settling down close to other people. As she collects stories she is drawn into this friendly and welcoming community who start to give her a sense of what it is to be a ‘beach-hutter’.
