  1. A Day at the Beach Hut


    You are invited to join us at Seahorse Beach Hut, 122a Southcliff, Walton on the Naze, on Monday 8th May. Please join us for tea and cake at 11pm and 2pm.
    Nancy Stevenson will be running two free creative writing workshops in response to her new book Beach Hut People. The workshops are free but places are limited so you will need to book.

    Book Launch of Beach Hut People by Nancy Stevenson

    We would like to invite you to join us for the launch of 'Beach Hut People' a new book by Nancy Stevenson. It is the first book published by Publishing Household and will be launched from 4pm–6pm on Saturday 29th April at The Nose bookshop, Walton on the Naze. 

    We will be selling the book for a special launch price of £10. Refreshments will be served. If you are unable to attend the book is available to pre-order from The Nose bookshop.

  3. Saturday Synth Session

    Synth Session with The Twidler 
    Saturday 8 April, 2pm onwards
    Experimental Synth Session in the bookshop.

    Dave 'The Twidler' is a drummer with an interest in synthesisers. 'I try to create atmospheric moods through experimentation. I pull out a bunch of machines connect them up and see what I can create.' Every session is a different synthesizer jam session.

    Come along on Saturday afternoon, drink a coffee, read a book, and listen to the sound of synths.

  4. Jane Stewart Artist Talk

    Artist Talk with Jane Stewart
    Saturday 1 April, 4.30pm
    Marine Cyanotypes

    Jane Stewart is a visual and community artist and storyteller based on the Essex coast, her work is rooted in nature, especially the coast, oceans, bodies of water and our relationship to them. Where possible she restricts her practice to materials that cause no harm to the environment. Recycled or natural materials, fabric plundered from charity shops, artefacts found on beach cleaning and mudlarking expeditions. In 2021 she won first prize at a climate change and ocean awareness climate exhibition in Zurich.  She will be talking about her process of making 'Marine Cyanotypes' and about Jeff the Whale;'He died for our sins,' and showing a short film on 'mapping the coast'.

  5. Maya Deren & her&her

    SEASIDE BLUES FILM CLUB

    At Land by Maya Deren, 1944 (15 min)
    With improvised soundscape by her&her.

    At Land (1944) is a 15-minute silent experimental film written, directed by, and starring Maya Deren. It has a dream-like narrative in which a woman, played by Deren, is washed up on a beach and goes on a strange journey encountering other people and other versions of herself.

    This screening will be accompanied by a live, improvised soundscape from holistic musicians Catherine Shrubshall & Cydnei B, aka: “her&her” with the underscoring soundtrack devised and engineered by Richard Kett.
